Lancaster County Restaurant Inspections: Two Kitchens Receive ‘B’ Grades in December

State health inspectors conducted 42 inspections of local dining establishments across Lancaster County in December 2025. While the vast majority of kitchens received “A” grades, two Indian Land establishments received “B” ratings due to violations involving plumbing and food labeling. Both restaurants have since scored an “A” rating on subsequent follow-up inspections.

A “B” grade is generally issued when an establishment scores between 78 and 87 points on a routine inspection or fails to correct priority violations during a follow-up.

Here are the details for the two establishments that received “B” ratings during the December reporting period:

Smoothie King (RSTH Holdings LLC)

• Location: 8106 Charlotte Hwy, Indian Land

• Score: 98 (B)

• Inspection Date: Dec. 4, 2025

Despite receiving a high numerical score of 98, this facility was downgraded to a “B” because a priority violation regarding backflow prevention had not been corrected. Inspectors noted that the prep sink and service/mop sink lacked the required air gap between the water supply and the flood level rim.

Update: The restaurant received an “A” rating during a follow-up inspection on Dec. 10, 2025.

European Food Market

• Location: 9792 Charlotte Hwy, Indian Land

• Score: 91 (B)

• Inspection Date: Dec. 8, 2025

Inspectors cited European Food Market for improperly storing raw animal foods, specifically noting raw ground beef stored above ready-to-eat carrots in the hall reach-in cooler, though this was corrected on-site. The report also highlighted that the facility lacked a clear date marking system for prepared items and that food packaged from bulk containers was sold without proper labels, including major allergen information.

Update: The establishment received an “A” rating during a follow-up inspection on Dec. 16, 2025.
