LANCASTER, S.C. — The Lancaster Police Department is investigating a homicide following a late-night shooting at the Palmetto Place Apartments on Saturday.
Officers responded to the complex on Pardue Street around 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 after receiving reports of an unresponsive person. Upon arrival, police discovered an 18-year-old female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lancaster County Coroner Karla Deese has identified the victim as 18-year-old Evangeline Mancera. According to the Coroner’s Office, Deputy Coroner Gina Goss responded to the scene shortly before midnight. A forensic autopsy is scheduled for this week.
Police Chief Don Roper issued a statement condemning the incident as authorities work to determine what happened.
“Violence of this nature is unacceptable in our community. We are dedicated to investigating this incident thoroughly and will pursue justice for the victim and her family,” Chief Roper said. “Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time as we work to uncover the circumstances surrounding this crime.”
No arrests have been made at this time. The case remains under active investigation with assistance from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit and the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office.
