Tega Cay to Fill Council Vacancy: Special Election Set for February 3rd

TEGA CAY, SC — Following the recent election of Carmen Miller as the next Mayor of Tega Cay, residents will soon be asked to return to the polls. A Special Election has been officially scheduled for February 3rd to fill the seat Miller is vacating.

Because Miller was a sitting council member when she won the mayoral race, her council seat must now be filled. The winner of this special election will serve the remainder of her unexpired term, which covers the next two years.

Whether you are considering a run for public office or simply want to ensure your voice is heard at the ballot box, here are the critical dates and details for the upcoming process.

Information for Potential Candidates

For those interested in serving on the City Council, the window to declare candidacy is brief and approaching quickly. Filing begins just after the Thanksgiving holiday.

  • Filing Opens: Friday, November 28th at 12:00 PM (County Offices are closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday).

  • In-Person Filing: The York County Government Center will accept filings on Monday, December 1st, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  • Filing Closes: Monday, December 8th at 12:00 PM.

Information for Voters

Tega Cay voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots early at the York County Government Center or in person on Election Day.

Early Voting Early voting will not take place within the city limits but will be held at the York County Government Center.

  • Dates: Tuesday, January 20th through Friday, January 30th (Monday–Friday).

  • Time: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

Election Day

  • Date: Tuesday, February 3rd.

  • Polls Open: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM.

Residents are encouraged to check their voter registration status ahead of the election to ensure they are eligible to participate in selecting the newest member of the Tega Cay City Council.
