Young K-9 Lucky and Deputy Vitek Earn Certification in Man-Trailing

Lancaster County, SC — The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is celebrating the impressive achievement of one of its newest K-9 teams. Deputy Vitek and his young partner, K-9 Lucky, successfully earned their certification in man-trailing after an intensive week of training with the National Police Bloodhound Association in Greenville, SC.

An Impressive Feat for a Young Dog

The accomplishment is particularly noteworthy given K-9 Lucky’s age. At just 10 months old, Lucky demonstrated the focus and skill required to complete the rigorous training, securing his and Deputy Vitek’s certification. Man-trailing is a critical skill for law enforcement, involving a K-9 following a scent trail left by a specific person to locate them. This is often used in searches for missing persons or to track suspects.

“We’re proud of their hard work and dedication as they continue to strengthen our K-9 unit and serve the community,” the Sheriff’s Office announced in a Facebook post earlier this week. The post was met with an outpouring of congratulations from residents.

Bolstering the K-9 Unit

Deputy Vitek and K-9 Lucky’s successful certification is a significant boost to the LCSO’s K-9 unit. Their specialized skill in man-trailing adds a crucial resource for searches and rescue operations within Lancaster County.

The team’s dedication to training highlights the LCSO’s commitment to continuous improvement and ensuring its personnel, both human and canine, are equipped with the best possible skills to protect and serve the public.

Ready to Serve

With their new certification, Deputy Vitek and K-9 Lucky are now ready to put their specialized training to use, joining the ranks of dedicated K-9 teams that play a vital role in local law enforcement efforts. The Sheriff’s Office looks forward to their contributions in keeping the community safe.
