Dr. Norris Williams announced as Lancaster County School District Interim Superintendent as of January 1, 2026

Lancaster County School District Board of Trustees announced this morning in a Called Board Meeting that Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Norris Williams will serve as Interim Superintendent beginning January 1, 2026.

Dr. Williams brings more than twenty-five years of educational leadership experience to his new role. He served as Assistant Superintendent for Leadership and School Excellence in the Sumter County School District, where he supported principals and enhanced instructional leadership across the district.

Dr. Williams served in both Clover School District and Rock Hill School District, where he held several key roles including principal, assistant principal, and math and science teacher. His breadth of experience in instructional leadership, school operations, and personnel management positions him well to support Lancaster County’s continued focus on academic excellence and organizational effectiveness. Dr. Williams holds a Doctorate in Education and a South Carolina Superintendent’s Certificate.

Dr. Raashad Fitzpatrick, Superintendent shared, “I am excited about the future of Lancaster County School District. I am confident that Dr. Williams will not only continue, but enhance all of the achievements, accomplishments, and improvements that we have worked on over the past two years”.

Stroble, Board Chair. “His deep knowledge of our district, his proven track record of results, and his commitment to our students make him uniquely qualified to maintain our momentum while we conduct a comprehensive search for a permanent superintendent.”

As Interim Superintendent, Dr. Williams will oversee all district operations, continue implementation of current strategic initiatives, and work closely with the Board of Trustees to ensure academic excellence and operational stability.

The Board has retained the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) to conduct a comprehensive search for a permanent superintendent. The search process is expected to take 4-6 months, with community input opportunities to be announced in the coming weeks.
