SLED CHARGES ORANGEBURG COUNTY MAN WITH ANIMAL FIGHTING OR BAITING AND ILL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Christopher Corbitt, 53, with Animal Fighting or Baiting and Ill Treatment of Animals on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives assisted SLED.

With assistance from shelters in South Carolina, 24 pit bull-type dogs with various scarring, consistent with dogfighting, were rescued from the inhumane living conditions.

During the search of the residence SLED Agents, along with assisting law enforcement agencies, located over 1 pound 3 ounces of meth, 24 grams of cocaine, a quarter kilo of fentanyl powder, a quantity of THC vape cartridges, 5 oxycodone pills, 2 handguns, 4 vehicles, an electronic
currency counting machine, and $22,421 in United States currency.

Corbitt was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
