York High NJROTC Takes 2nd Overall at Season-Opening Drill Meet in North Carolina

LENOIR, N.C. — York High School’s Navy Junior ROTC kicked off its competitive season with a powerhouse showing at West Caldwell High School, finishing 2nd overall out of eight teams and bringing home a haul of first-place trophies across multiple events.

For roughly half the roster—12 of 27 cadets—it was the first drill meet of their NJROTC careers. Nerves didn’t show. Under Drill Team Commander Logan Zelakowski, York posted wins in rifle marksmanship and three varsity drill categories while stacking podium finishes across the board.

Program leaders emphasized that while trophies are gratifying, the unit’s aim is consistent performance, teamwork, and having fun—the results take care of themselves.
