Governor Henry McMaster has issued Executive Order 2025-34, officially lifting the State of Emergency that was declared ahead of Tropical Storm Imelda. The decision was made after the storm’s projected track shifted away from the South Carolina coast over the weekend.
The lifting of the order signals a return to normal operations for South Carolina and state agencies. The governor acknowledged the favorable change in the forecast, noting that the state was fortunate to have avoided the storm’s worst potential impacts. However, he reminded residents that the hurricane season is still underway and that emergency response capabilities remain in place for any future threat.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Imelda is currently situated near the central Bahamas. While the main threat has passed, the storm is expected to remain offshore from South Carolina but could still bring minor coastal impacts. Forecasters warn of a risk for isolated coastal flooding, high surf, and strong rip currents throughout the middle of the week.
The South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) has announced its return to normal daily operations. SCEMD leadership emphasized the continuing need for vigilance, reminding the public that it remains crucial to stay informed and prepared for the remainder of the 2025 hurricane season.
