Solicitor David Stumbo Announces Bid for South Carolina Attorney General

Solicitor David Stumbo of the 11th Judicial Circuit has officially announced his campaign to run for South Carolina Attorney General. Stumbo, a Republican, is the latest candidate to enter what is shaping up to be a contested race for the state’s top legal position.

The announcement sets the stage for a competitive primary, as Stumbo will be running against fellow Republicans State Representative Jason Elliott and State Senator Chip Campsen. State Senator Stephen Goldfinch has also announced his candidacy. There are currently no declared Democratic candidates for the office.

The current Attorney General, Alan Wilson, will not be seeking reelection for his current post. Wilson, who has held the office since 2011, announced earlier this year that he is running for Governor of South Carolina. His decision to run for the state’s highest office has opened the door for a new generation of candidates to vie for the Attorney General position.

The candidates are expected to focus on issues such as crime prevention, public corruption, and the protection of constitutional rights. Stumbo’s campaign is likely to highlight his experience as a solicitor, a role that involves prosecuting criminal cases across a four-county circuit. The race is anticipated to draw considerable attention as the candidates vie for their party’s nomination and a chance to face any potential Democratic challengers in the general election.
