SC Housing Seeks Homebuilders for New Affordable Housing Program

The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority (SC Housing) has launched an innovative new program to address the state’s severe shortage of affordable single-family homes. The “Made It Home!” program is now seeking homebuilders across the state to participate in the initiative, which aims to increase housing inventory for working families.

According to SC Housing, the median home listing price in South Carolina has risen to $350,000, putting homeownership out of reach for many. In response, the new program offers an inventive solution by providing a $12,500 subsidy for each affordable home that a builder completes and sells.

Builders can choose to construct one of two types of homes:

  • Tier 1: Two-bedroom, two-bath homes with at least 1,000 square feet, priced at or below $175,000.
  • Tier 2: Three-bedroom, two-bath homes with at least 1,200 square feet, priced at or below $200,000.

The agency hopes to create up to 130 new single-family homes through this program within the next year. In addition to the builder subsidy, the program will provide eligible homebuyers with up to $25,000 in forgivable down payment and closing cost assistance, making the dream of homeownership more accessible.

SC Housing is accepting applications from licensed homebuilders with relevant experience, financial stability, and the ability to market and sell homes that meet the program’s affordability criteria. The deadline for builders to apply is September 30, 2025.
