Vonda Lee Painter Demarest, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 27, 2025.
Mrs. Demarest was born in Parsons, West Virginia, on October 6, 1927, to Odos Kee Painter and Rosa Phillips Painter. She, along with her four siblings, grew up during the depression years. She was known to say, “We were poor, but so was everybody else, so we didn’t know it.” In her youth, she worked as a “soda jerk” at the local drug store. After graduating high school, Vonda got an office job with the local power company until she met and married her husband, Clifford Douglas Demarest, who passed away in 1982. Vonda was a member of Ebenezer ARP Church since 1976. She worked for H&R Block in Rock Hill for several years and then took the job of office manager for Dr. Frank Gaston until he retired. She was also a member of the Shepherd’s Center and Owl’s Club, and she was a 2012 graduate of Inside Rock Hill. Vonda loved her family, as well as her church family. She loved to cook, especially for others, and also learned all sorts of crafts over the years.
Vonda is survived by her sister: Virginia Kelley of Cresaptown, MD; two sons: Mark (Susan) and Marshall (Debbie) both of Rock Hill. Grandchildren: Kristopher (Lauren), Kristina Demarest Russo (Josh), Joshua Demarest, Ben Demarest (Hannah), Madison Tucker Baker (Gary), Colton Tucker (Sarah), and six great-grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life service at Ebenezer ARP Church on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer ARP Church – Cemetery Association, 2132 Ebenezer Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29732
