The Fort Mill Police Department has launched a homicide investigation after a 21-year-old man was found shot to death in a Steele Street park on Thursday, August 28th. Johnny Wayne Martin Cook of Chester was discovered by a passerby in the early morning hours, as reported by WBT.
Police were called to the scene after receiving a report of an unresponsive individual. Upon arrival, officers and emergency medical services confirmed the man was deceased from a gunshot wound. The area was immediately secured as a crime scene, and investigators were called in.
The park, a popular spot for jogging and recreational activities, was closed to the public for much of the day as investigators processed evidence and canvassed the area. Authorities have not yet released any details regarding a suspect or motive.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have stated they will provide updates as new information becomes available.
