Senior Pets Royce and Graham Seeking Their Forever Homes

FORT MILL, S.C. — The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) is highlighting two senior pets this week who are hoping to find loving homes after long stays at the shelter.

Royce: Cat of the Week
Royce, a 12-year-old tuxedo cat, has been waiting for his chance at a permanent home for more than a year. Returned to the shelter after spending time in a household, Royce has adjusted to rescue life but longs for the comforts of a quieter, mature home. He would do best as the only pet.

Staff describe him as affectionate and quirky — he enjoys curling up on laps for TV time, making biscuits on soft bedding, and birdwatching from a sunny window perch. Royce also has a charming habit of responding to “kissy” sounds with a head bop and a purr. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to meet his match.

Graham: Dog of the Week
Graham, an 11-year-old Rottweiler mix, has spent nearly 950 days at the HSYC after being abandoned outside the shelter with a note from his previous owners. Despite his difficult start, Graham has become a favorite among volunteers and staff, who describe him as sweet-natured and resilient.

He enjoys daily walks and has slimmed down with careful treat management — though he still has a soft spot for snacks. Graham is seeking a calm, mature household without small children or other pets where he can finally settle into his golden years. Like Royce, he is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption.

How to Help
HSYC is also encouraging the community to help in other ways. With kitten season in full swing, the shelter is in urgent need of foster homes, as well as donations of gently used items and financial support. Year-to-date, the organization has successfully placed 478 pets — 364 cats and 114 dogs — into their forever homes.
