State Senator Josh Kimbrell has officially announced his candidacy for Governor of South Carolina. The Spartanburg County Republican is set to hold a campaign launch event this Saturday at Bowen’s Landing in Inman.
Kimbrell is described as a conservative leader with deep roots in South Carolina’s values. His campaign highlighted his political record, which includes defeating a long-serving Democratic incumbent, advocating for the state’s largest income tax cut, and championing significant legislation such as the Heartbeat Bill and constitutional carry. Beyond his legislative work, Kimbrell is recognized as a father, husband, small business founder, and former host of the “Common Cents” radio show.
Kimbrell’s entry is expected to contribute to a crowded Republican primary field in the upcoming election. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson is also reportedly preparing to launch his gubernatorial campaign. Other potential contenders speculated to join the GOP primary include U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, though no official announcements have been made by these individuals.
On the Democratic side, State Rep. Jermaine Johnson recently announced the formation of an exploratory committee, signaling a possible run for governor.
