Cederick Dion Dixon, 38, of Fort Mill, has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis handed down an 87-month imprisonment term, which will be followed by three years of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole in the federal system.
The charges stem from a traffic stop on January 15, 2023. A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper pulled over a vehicle driven by Dixon for a defective equipment violation. Dixon admitted to having a suspended license, and a records check confirmed his status as a habitual traffic offender, leading to his arrest.
During a search of the vehicle, troopers discovered a small bag of marijuana in the driver’s side door handle and an open bottle of liquor in the backseat. Inside a backpack on the front seat, investigators located a firearm, 9mm ammunition, and various narcotics.
Dixon was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition due to multiple prior convictions. These convictions include attempted armed robbery, unlawful carrying of a weapon, distribution of crack cocaine, and a previous charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. The Department of Justice strengthened PSN in May 2021, emphasizing community trust, violence prevention, strategic enforcement, and measurable results.
