Pets of the Week: Meet Draco and Sherry from the Humane Society of York County

This week’s featured pets at the Humane Society of York County (HSYC) both sport classic black-and-white coats and are waiting patiently for their forever homes. With distinct personalities and stories, Draco the cat and Sherry the dog could be the perfect additions to the right homes.

Cat of the Week: Draco

Draco, a 2.5-year-old black-and-white male cat, has earned the title of “Biggest Flirt” in the HSYC Cat Lounge. He arrived at the shelter 17 weeks ago as an owner surrender — through no fault of his own — and has quickly become a staff favorite.

Draco loves attention and often greets visitors with affectionate rubs. He enjoys:

  • Spending time with other cats

  • Watching birds from a perch

  • Lounging up high to observe the world below

To meet Draco, call HSYC at 803-802-0902. Adoption details are available at humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org.

Dog of the Week: Sherry

Sherry is a young terrier mix who has been at HSYC for nearly a year after being surrendered by her previous owner. She is shy at first, but given time and patience, she bonds deeply and blossoms into a loving companion.

Highlights about Sherry:

  • Enjoys long walks and yard time

  • Gets along well with other dogs

  • Spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested

  • A calm presence who needs a gentle, supportive adopter

To learn more or set up a meet-and-greet with Sherry, call 803-802-0902.

Shelter Updates & Reminders

  • Fireworks & Pet Safety: With Memorial Day here, HSYC urges pet owners to keep animals indoors during fireworks. Loud noises and flashes can be terrifying to pets. Ensure they have updated ID tags and are microchipped.

  • Kitten Season: Found a kitten or litter? Contact HSYC at [email protected] to begin the intake process.

  • Foster Families Needed: With kitten season in full swing, the shelter is seeking foster volunteers. Fostering helps save lives and is a rewarding way to care for animals temporarily. Sign up at HSYC Foster Page.

  • Support the Mission: As an independent nonprofit, HSYC relies on community support. Ways to help include donating time, supplies (like clay litter, bleach, and pet treats), or gently used items to the HSYC Thrift Store. Financial donations are also welcome at Donate Here.
