Anne Springs Close Greenway Invites Community to Celebrate National Trails Day

The Anne Springs Close Greenway is set to celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 7, 2025, by offering free entry to all visitors. The Greenway aims to collectively cover 2,000 miles of trails during the event, encouraging participants to hike, bike, ride horses, or paddle on Lake Haigler.

Participants can contribute to the mileage goal by multiplying the number in their group (including pets) by the length of the trails covered, or by counting paddling loops on Lake Haigler. This collective effort not only helps the Greenway reach its target but also offers a tangible benefit to participants: each mile hiked translates to $1 off a family membership, up to a maximum discount of $12.

The day’s events begin early, with a shuttle service from the Blue Star entrance to the Farm & Stables entrance at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Blue Star Hike at 8 a.m. At 10 a.m., a Trailkeepers Volunteer Orientation will be held at the Greenway Gateway, where a DIY Trail Mix Station will also be available until 2 p.m. From 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., visitors can enjoy a self-guided hike on marked trails with staffed educational stations, starting from the Greenway Gateway.

For those interested in mountain biking, clinics are available throughout the day, offering a unique way to contribute to the mileage challenge while learning new skills. Beginner and Intermediate clinics are scheduled for 9:00 a.m., with Kids 101 and Kids 201 clinics set for 1:00 p.m.

Popular trails for participants include the Haigler Loop (2 miles), the path from Greenway Gateway to Steele Creek Swinging Bridge and back (0.5 miles), Founders Dairy Barn to Steele Creek Swinging Bridge and back (1.5 miles), and Archer’s Loop (1.7 miles).

Beyond the local celebration, attendees can also take the National Trails Day Pledge through the American Hiking Society for a chance to win one of four national prize packs.
