Motorists traveling through the area of Interstate 77 and its interchange with S.C. 160 should prepare for temporary traffic pattern changes and potential delays over the next two weeks as construction continues on a bridge widening project.
The contractor, United Blythe Joint Venture (UBJV), will implement several overnight detours and lane closures to support the ongoing work. The changes are scheduled as follows:
-
Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10: From 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., all southbound I-77 traffic will be diverted up and down the exit and entrance ramps at S.C. 160. Law enforcement officers and contractors will be on site to direct traffic through the interchange. Some lane closures are also expected on the northbound side.
-
Sunday, May 11 through Tuesday, May 13: Lane closures will take place during evening hours on both northbound and southbound lanes of I-77. Drivers may experience slowed traffic during these times.
-
Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17: From 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., all northbound I-77 traffic will be diverted up and down the ramps at S.C. 160. Law enforcement and contractors will again be directing vehicles at the interchange. Some lane closures are expected on the southbound side.
-
Sunday, May 18 through Tuesday, May 20: Evening lane closures will occur on the northbound side of I-77, potentially causing traffic delays.
The traffic adjustments are part of a broader effort to construct a wider bridge across I-77, aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the area. Officials are asking drivers to remain alert, follow posted signs, and allow extra time for travel during the construction period.
