LAKE WYLIE, S.C. – The York County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of car break-ins that occurred on February 23 in the Lake Wylie area, where at least 24 vehicles were targeted in a single day.
According to authorities, security footage captured two suspects, both wearing hoods and masks, as they went through parked vehicles in residential driveways. One suspect was seen rummaging through an unlocked car while the other stood guard, pointing a firearm at the homeowner’s security camera. The armed individual was also seen tauntingly dancing in front of the camera before moving on to the next vehicle.
Deputies released the video footage on social media in hopes that someone will recognize the individuals involved. The sheriff’s office has urged residents to report any information about the suspects’ identities.
“If you recognize these individuals, please contact the York County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 628-3059 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers,” officials stated in their announcement.
Authorities are also reminding residents to avoid confronting suspects if they witness a break-in and to call 911 immediately instead.
This incident highlights the importance of locking vehicles and ensuring valuables are not left inside, especially overnight. Law enforcement continues to investigate and urges the community to remain vigilant.
