York School District One has announced the upcoming retirement of Superintendent Kelly S. Coxe. In a statement, the School Board expressed their gratitude for Ms. Coxe’s dedication to students, staff, and the broader York community.
During her tenure, Ms. Coxe has been instrumental in advancing the district’s mission to cultivate a service-oriented community of learners, focusing on personal growth and excellence in communication, collaboration, creation, and critical thinking. Her leadership has been pivotal in implementing the “YSD1: Connected as ONE” campaign, emphasizing collective efforts in learning, serving, and giving.
The Board has scheduled a special meeting on Monday, February 24, to discuss hiring a firm to conduct the search for a new superintendent. This initiative aims to ensure a smooth transition and continued success for the district’s students both in and out of the classroom.
Ms. Coxe’s retirement marks another leadership change in York County school districts. Recently, Fort Mill School District’s Superintendent Chuck Epps announced his retirement after over four decades of service, including 15 years as superintendent. Additionally, Tommy Schmolze resigned as the superintendent of Rock Hill Schools in January.
York School District One remains committed to its mission and will work diligently during this transition period to maintain its standards of excellence.
