Isuzu to Invest $280 Million in South Carolina Plant

Isuzu Motors Limited is investing $280 million to build a new production facility in Greenville County, South Carolina, strengthening its presence in North America and preparing for the rising demand for electric commercial vehicles.

Scheduled to open in 2027, the facility will employ over 700 workers by 2028 and produce up to 50,000 vehicles annually by 2030. It will manufacture both battery electric and internal combustion engine vehicles, including N-series BEV/gas models and F-series diesel models.

Isuzu’s new plant will feature a flexible manufacturing system, eliminating traditional conveyor lines to improve efficiency and scalability. Automated inspections will ensure quality control.

The investment comes as Japanese automakers navigate potential U.S. tariffs on imported components. By establishing operations in South Carolina, Isuzu aims to mitigate trade challenges and expand its market position.

Active in North America since 1984, Isuzu continues to expand its manufacturing and sales operations. The new plant reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and the future of commercial vehicle electrification.
