FORT MILL — A new proposal aims to reshape downtown Fort Mill with the addition of hundreds of apartments and potentially a highly-anticipated Trader Joe’s grocery store. This week, a developer approached Fort Mill City Council to request rezoning for more than 15 acres located at 104 Williamson Street, the site of the historic Williamson Mill.
The redevelopment plan includes transforming the mill property into a mixed-use space with 225 high-quality apartments and commercial spaces, adding both residential and retail options to the downtown area. As part of the proposal, officials disclosed that they have initiated talks with Trader Joe’s, expressing interest in opening a store on the site if the project moves forward.
Council members are set to cast their initial vote on the rezoning proposal in January, marking the first step in the approval process. If successful, the project could bring a major grocery retailer and expanded housing options to Fort Mill, contributing to the town’s ongoing revitalization efforts.
