CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is mourning the loss of a retired and highly decorated four-legged officer. The department took to social media to announce the passing of K-9 Saint, a beloved member of the CMPD family who served the community for five years.
According to the department’s tribute, Saint was a formidable presence in the field. Known for his “unmatched nose” and relentless drive, he developed a reputation as an expert tracker. CMPD described him as “unstoppable” when trailing suspects, stating that once Saint was on a trail, “there was no hiding.”
“His determination… made him an invaluable part of our team and a devoted protector of this community, bringing justice in countless cases,” the department wrote.
While Saint was a fierce protector while wearing the badge, he had a softer side off-duty. Officials noted that his absolute favorite thing was his ball.
Following his five-year career, Saint enjoyed a well-deserved retirement in the care of his handler, Lt. Shields. He spent his final years surrounded by the Shields family, who ensured his days were filled with treats, belly rubs, and love.
The department concluded their announcement with a final farewell to their partner: “Rest easy, good boy. Thank you for your service.”
