Ritz Cracker Sandwich products are being voluntarily recalled nationwide, including in South Carolina, due to a labeling error that could endanger consumers with peanut allergies. Mondelēz Global LLC announced the recall of four carton sizes of specific products on July 8, as detailed in a notice from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
The recall specifically impacts RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches sold in 8-pack, 20-pack, and 40-pack cartons. Also included is the RITZ Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack in the 20-pack carton. The recall applies to products with particular “Best When Used By” dates and Plant Codes. Consumers can find the complete list of affected products on the FDA’s website.
The issue stems from individually wrapped packs within the affected cartons that may be incorrectly labeled as “Cheese variety,” despite containing the Peanut Butter variety. While the outer cartons are correctly labeled and indicate the presence of peanuts, the mislabeling on individual packs poses a serious risk for those with peanut allergies or severe sensitivities.
As of July 8, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. However, consumers with a peanut allergy or sensitivity are strongly advised against consuming the recalled products and should dispose of them immediately.
