Mrs. Mary Ellen Kennington Hendryx, 88, of Lancaster, widow of the late Sanford V.R. Hendryx, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025. She was born August 4, 1936 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late William Monroe Kennington and Connie Adams Kennington. Mrs. Hendryx was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She enjoyed working puzzle books, word searches, cooking and baking and collecting baskets. Mrs. Hendryx was a member of TOPS and loved being a part of the TOPS family. She loved to sit outside and watch her garden. Mrs. Hendryx was married to late Sanford V.R. Hendryx for 60 years. She loved her family and spending time with them.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hendryx will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hendryx is survived by a son, Steven Hendryx, Sr. (Marlene) of Lancaster; a daughter, Janet Hendryx Brown and her husband Al of Lancaster; a brother, Paul Kennington of Lancaster; a sister, Brenda Broughton of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Beth Allen (Tristan), Michael Hendryx, Melani McNeily (Chris), Niki Hickson (Chris), Steven Hendryx, Jr. (Reagan) and Luk Hendryx; and eight great-grandchildren, Landon, Sebastian, Brinley, Ansley, Kynslee, Arwen, Finn and Emmett; a special niece, Libby Gregory; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gail Hyatt and John Trull. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Allen; and two brothers, Vernon Kennington and Bobby Kennington.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Immanuel Baptist Church.
