Two Men Arrested in $25,000 Scam Attempt in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Two men from overseas are in custody after allegedly attempting a $25,000 scam in Rock Hill, the York County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) announced.

Authorities arrested Sumind Singh, 36, and Mohammed Mohsin, 28, following a fraud attempt involving phone impersonation and a courier scheme. Both men are now being held at the York County Detention Center.

According to investigators, the scam began when two Rock Hill residents received a phone call claiming their Microsoft account had been hacked. Shortly after, another caller posed as a Wells Fargo employee, instructing the victims to withdraw $25,000 and hand it over to a designated courier.

The victims became suspicious when the scammer mentioned that someone would come to their home to collect the money. They promptly contacted local authorities, who responded to the scene.

Deputies located a vehicle matching the description provided by the victims and conducted a traffic stop. Singh, the driver, and Mohsin, the passenger, were arrested and charged with obtaining property under false pretenses exceeding $10,000 and criminal conspiracy—both felony offenses.

“This is a new and alarming method that scammers are using to steal money from people,” said Sheriff Tony Breeden. “This arrest demonstrates our commitment to protecting victims and all citizens. These individuals made the right choice by calling us, which allowed us to apprehend the suspects before they could steal from anyone else.”

Singh and Mohsin, who are originally from Bangladesh and India, were in the U.S. on work and vacation visas. Authorities said they had traveled to York County from another state. Detectives are now collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to determine if the two men are connected to other fraud-related crimes.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
