Fort Mill School District Ranks in Top 1% Nationally, Still No. 1 in South Carolina

Niche’s 2027 rankings place Fort Mill 92nd out of more than 10,000 districts nationwide and first in South Carolina and the Charlotte area.

The Fort Mill School District ranked 92nd out of more than 10,000 districts nationwide in Niche’s newly released 2027 Best Schools and Districts rankings, placing it among the top 1% of school districts in the United States, according to the district.

Fort Mill also kept its ranking as the No. 1 school district in South Carolina and the No. 1 district in the Charlotte area, earning an overall A+ grade from Niche.

The district also received recognition for its teachers and workplace environment. Fort Mill ranked No. 1 among Best Places to Teach in South Carolina, No. 1 in the Charlotte area and No. 1 in York County. It ranked No. 2 among Districts with the Best Teachers in South Carolina.

Nationally, Fort Mill ranked 470th out of 11,060 districts, placing it in the top 4% for Best Places to Teach in America. It ranked 492nd out of 11,089 districts, also in the top 4%, for Districts with the Best Teachers in America.

“These rankings reflect the dedication of our teachers, staff, students and families who make Fort Mill such an exceptional place to learn and work,” said Superintendent Grey Young. “Being recognized among the best districts in the nation is an incredible honor, but we are especially proud of the recognition our educators have earned. Their commitment to our students is what makes our district truly successful.”

Niche’s annual rankings evaluate school districts using data from the U.S. Department of Education, state assessments, graduation rates, college readiness, and reviews from students, parents and educators, according to the district. The number of districts included in each ranking varies based on available data for each category.
