History will come alive this weekend as the Museum of the Waxhaws hosts the Battle of Charlotte American Revolution Weekend on Sept. 26–27.
The two-day event will feature living historians portraying soldiers and civilians from the American Revolution. Visitors can explore period encampments, examine clothing and equipment, watch military demonstrations and learn about the research and preparation behind historical reenactments.
The main battles will take place at 2 p.m. each day.
Saturday’s schedule includes the Battle of Charlotte reenactment. Gates open at 9:50 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.
Sunday will begin with a 10 a.m. church service, followed by the Battle of McIntyre’s Farm, known as the Battle of the Bees, at 2 p.m. Gates open at 9:50 a.m. and close at 3 p.m.
General admission is $15, while a family pass is $40. Children age 5 and younger are admitted free. Tickets are valid throughout the day, allowing visitors to leave and return.
The event will be held rain or shine. Coolers and chairs are permitted, but no pets are allowed. Food will not be sold on the grounds, although water will be available for purchase at the museum.
Event parking will be available at Waxhaw Elementary School, 1101 Old Providence Road, with access directly to the museum grounds.
