SPRINGFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS “PAY IT FORWARD”

FORT MILL, SC —Springfield Middle School students are bringing the themes of compassion and empathy to life through a schoolwide Day of Service on November 26th. Inspired by their shared reading of Pay It Forward by Catherine Ryan Hyde at the start of the school year, the 711 students will partner with 29 local organizations, contributing over 2,800 hours of service to the community in a single day.

The novel’s message—that a small act of kindness can ripple outward to make a significant impact—has driven this initiative. Students will distribute “Pay It Forward” cards during their service, encouraging others to perform their own small acts of kindness.

The Day of Service was organized by Springfield Middle’s 6th-8th grade student leaders. These students collaborated with local organizations, creating opportunities to serve at places like Defend the Fatherless, the Anne Close Springs Greenway, Miracle Park, and more. Activities will also include helping at assisted living facilities and mentoring elementary students within the district.
