The Humane Society of York County is hoping to find forever homes for two animals this week: a tuxedo cat named Alvarado and a Plott Hound mix named Slinky Dog.
Alvarado, estimated to be just over three years old, was surrendered by his previous owner through no fault of his own. Staff describe the handsome cat as gorgeous and adjusting well to rescue life. He is believed to be compatible with other cats given enough transition time. Alvarado is tested, microchipped, vaccinated and neutered.
Slinky Dog, a brindle coated Plott Hound, arrived at the shelter from Animal Control and is still getting comfortable in his new surroundings. Though a bit nervous, he has shown a friendly side around other dogs. Staff say he is neutered, tested, microchipped and vaccinated. Dog compatibility testing has not yet been completed, as shelter staff are giving him time and space to decompress and regain confidence.
Both animals are available for adoption. The shelter also has open positions for volunteers and paid employees and is actively seeking fosters to help expand its capacity to save animals. So far in 2026, the organization has placed 228 pets into forever homes, including 68 dogs and 160 cats.
