Freddie Daniel “Fred” Adams passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at age 78, surrounded by his family.
A lifelong resident of Lancaster, South Carolina, he was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Clara Daniels Adams, and his father, Mason Robinson Adams.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Linda Adams; his children, Sean Adams, Brent Adams and his wife Sara, and Erin Tindal and her husband Conner; his grandchildren, Carter Adams, Colin Adams, Emily Tindal, Elise Tindal, Lauren Tindal, Ethan Adams, Aubrey Adams, and Cali Semple; and his sister, Gene Hunter.
Fred graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in business. He worked at Springs Customer Service for over 20 years and later helped co-found Wise Guys, a young men’s clothing store. He ended his career as a Logistics Manager at Home Depot, where he met many close friends whom he held dear to his heart.
He was a big sports fan. He loved the Gamecocks and West Ham United F.C. He dedicated many years to coaching Dixie Youth Baseball and soccer in Lancaster. He was one of the founders of the Lancaster Select Soccer program in the early 1980s. Through these roles, he mentored countless young people and left a lasting impact on many lives.
Fred was known for his quick wit and the sayings he seemed to have for just about every situation. Whether it was “So many social engagements, so little time,” “Between you and me and the gatepost,” or reminding everyone that things were always “better than a sharp stick in the eye,” he had a way of making people smile. He believed strongly in hard work, often saying, “Successful people do what unsuccessful people won’t.” His words and the laughter that came with them will live on in all who knew him.
He loved his family most of all, especially his grandchildren, and treasured every moment spent together. He was known for his famous spaghetti and cornbread. He enjoyed golf trips and Gamecock games with his friends when they talked him into going. He absolutely loved listening to music, and his taste said everything about him, ranging from The Beatles and Patsy Cline to Cyndi Lauper, Snoop Dogg, and Slipknot.
He held a special place in his heart for his cats, Snowy, Butter, and Lazlo.
Fred’s legacy is one of hard work, humor, love, honor, and integrity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 701 N. Main Street, Lancaster, SC, on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A private celebration of Fred’s life will be held at a later date when all loved ones can be present.
