Commuters in York County should prepare for significant traffic adjustments beginning this week on one of the area’s most heavily traveled corridors.
Starting Wednesday evening, construction crews will begin implementing a new traffic pattern on South Carolina Highway 160 (Exit 85) at the Interstate 77 interchange. The work is a scheduled component of the ongoing interchange improvement project aimed at enhancing vehicle flow and safety.
To minimize the impact on daytime commuters and local businesses, the South Carolina Department of Transportation has scheduled the work to occur during overnight hours. Operations are set to run from 7 p.m. each evening until 6 a.m. the following morning. This overnight schedule will remain in effect through Sunday.
Motorists can expect activity in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of SC-160 throughout the duration of the project. To assist with navigation and safety, digital message boards will be stationed at key intervals within the work zone to provide real-time information regarding specific lane closures and detours.
Local authorities are urging drivers to exercise increased caution when traveling through the interchange during these hours, as workers and heavy machinery will be operating in close proximity to moving traffic. The shift in the traffic pattern marks a pivotal phase in the multi-year effort to modernize the I-77 and SC-160 junction.
