The celebration will take place at the Rock Hill – York County Airport, located at 550 Airport Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
In collaboration with Visit York County, SC, and two other partners, the Rock Hill – York County Airport has organized a day full of vibrant activities and exhibits that will captivate aviation enthusiasts and the general public alike. Among the highlights of the event are an exhilarating skydiving demonstration by Skydive Carolina, thrilling flyovers by a variety of unique aircraft, and static displays of numerous aircraft, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with some fascinating machines.

The airport, which has been a cornerstone of the Rock Hill community since its opening in October 1959, has grown into a vital general aviation facility. Originally named Rock Hill Municipal Airport, the facility was established on a 364-acre site selected by the Rock Hill-York County Aviation Commission in the 1950s, with construction beginning in 1957. Over the decades, the airport has undergone several expansions and name changes, evolving into the 495-acre hub it is today.
Home to 185 aircraft, the Rock Hill – York County Airport is the second-largest in South Carolina and handles over 50,000 operations annually. Airport Director Steven Gould reflected on the airport’s legacy, stating, “It’s important to remember where you came from to guide where you are going. The planning and investment in airport improvements throughout the years have been key.”
In anticipation of the October 5 open house, the airport has also unveiled a new logo, prominently featuring the UZA Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) code and elements symbolizing flight. Gould expressed his enthusiasm about the airport’s future, saying, “The sky is the limit for UZA. A mile of runway can take you almost anywhere in the world.”
This open house event promises to be a memorable occasion, offering something for everyone. Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out, mark your calendar for October 5th and join the Rock Hill – York County Airport in celebrating 65 years of flight!
