York County Humane Society Pets of the Week: Meet Leela and Bobinsky

FORT MILL, S.C. — Happy March! As spring approaches, the Humane Society of York County (HSYC) is looking to spring these two deserving pets from the shelter and into their forever homes.

This week, the rescue is highlighting a resilient cat looking for a second chance and a tiny dog with a massive personality.

Cat of the Week: Leela

First up is Leela, a gorgeous soul who is approximately 4 years and 10 months old. Leela’s story is a heartbreaking one; she came to the HSYC as an owner surrender because her previous owner could no longer care for her due to a progressive illness.

Despite the difficult transition, Leela is described as a “beauty inside and out.” You might notice she is missing an eye—the shelter isn’t sure how she lost it, but she has healed beautifully and adjusted well.

Leela is an absolute love bug who is laid back, sweet, and loving. While she hasn’t been cat-tested yet, volunteers are confident she would do great with the proper transition time. She is spayed, vaccinated, tested, and microchipped. If you are looking for a companion to melt your heart, Leela is waiting for you.

Dog of the Week: Bobinsky

If you prefer high energy in a small package, meet Bobinsky. This 6-year-old Chihuahua was pulled by the HSYC from animal control. While his history is a mystery, his personality is not.

Weighing in at an estimated 5 to 7 lbs, Bobinsky is described as a “riot” with a big personality in a tiny body. He is super playful, silly, and provides a high “joy factor.” One volunteer noted that they played a game of hide-and-seek with him and spent the whole time giggling.

Bobinsky is good with other dogs that match his energy level. Like many small dogs, he can be a little hesitant about over-snuggling initially, but his playfulness makes up for it.

“What’s the Scoop” and Rescue Needs

The HSYC also issued a “Paws Up” alert for Lady Danbury, a beagle in their care who needs surgery on both back legs. The community is asked to stay tuned for an upcoming fundraiser to support her medical needs.

Current Shelter Wish List:

The shelter is currently in need of the following supplies:

  • Dog treats (soft and hard)

  • Cat litter (specifically pine litter)

  • Bleach

  • Laundry detergent

Success Stories

The community’s support is making a difference. Year-to-date for 2026, the HSYC has already placed 125 pets (34 dogs and 91 cats) into forever homes.
