For more than eight decades, WRHI has been the trusted voice that starts the day for residents across the tri-county area of York, Lancaster and Chester.
What began in 1944 as a pioneering one-person morning show with a blend of news and music has grown into Palmetto Mornings. OTS Media Managing Partner Allan Miller describes the show as “a dynamic, fast-paced morning program reflecting today’s media landscape. We felt it was important to follow the successful entertainment format of many major-market Radio and TV Networks by using a variety of well-known local hosts and co-hosts instead of the traditional two person desk.” The new Palmetto Mornings now features a broader mix of news, interviews, commentary, lifestyle features, business, sports, weather and community events.
The expanded format brings together the local area’s most recognizable broadcasting personalities. Veteran newscasters Manning Kimmel and Steven Stone continue to deliver news and commentary with the award-winning journalism and credibility listeners have trusted for decades. They are now joined regularly throughout the week by familiar voices Chris Miller, Tyler Cupp, Patti Mercer, Catherine Madden, and Chet Tucker. Newcomer Megan Paat will add fresh perspective and additional energy to the broadcasts. Blair Lybrand continues as the show’s producer and director.

Palmetto Mornings is the signature program of WRHI, South Carolina’s only 11-time Radio Station of the Year, a distinction unmatched in state broadcasting history. Since 1989, WRHI and the OTS Media Group have earned a statewide record 255 South Carolina Broadcasters Association Awards, recognizing excellence in news, sports, public service, entertainment, production and community service. Included among those honors are 15 statewide awards earned specifically by Palmetto Mornings, including Best Radio Morning Show, Best Radio News/Talk Show and Best Radio Show. In 2026, Palmetto Mornings picked up all three awards, getting the category “sweep” at the annual Statewide STAR Awards.

Thomas Hyslip lives in Tega Cay with his wife and daughter. After 27 years in the U.S. Army and Federal Law Enforcement, he retired to pursue his passion for teaching. Tom is now an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of South Florida. In 2 short years he has won 10 awards from the South Carolina Press Association, including first place in column writing, education beat reporting and best podcast.
