South Carolina House Passes Congressional Redistricting Plan

The South Carolina House of Representatives approved a bill to redraw the state’s congressional district lines during an early Wednesday morning session.

Following extended deliberations, House members cast their votes on the newly proposed map at approximately 12:30 AM. The legislation, designated as H.5683, successfully passed the chamber and now advances to the State Senate for further consideration.

The redistricting plan arrives amid a broader national push to protect political advantages ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. The newly drawn map would reshape the boundaries of South Carolina’s 6th Congressional District, which is currently the state’s only Democratic-held U.S. House seat, represented by Congressman Jim Clyburn.

The bill will face its next round of reviews and potential adjustments as Senate committees prepare to take up the map.
