Authorities in York County have launched an investigation following a late-night shooting Friday that left one man dead and another injured. The York Police Department responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of West Liberty Street and Wellington Square Drive, where a large gathering was reportedly taking place.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Juan Rivera, who died at the scene. A second victim, a 34-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the leg.
Witnesses in the neighborhood described hearing a rapid succession of over a dozen shots. Residents noted that while the area frequently hosts large social gatherings, the scale of Friday’s crowd was unusual, and the subsequent violence was a stark departure from the typical safety of the community.
Shortly after the incident, police apprehended 34-year-old Kejuan Dye of Clover. Dye faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He is currently awaiting a bond hearing. While the investigation remains active, investigators have not yet disclosed the specific motive behind the shooting. Neighborhood residents expressed shock at the incident, noting that despite frequent parties in the vicinity, they had never experienced a violent escalation of this magnitude.
