YORK, S.C. — York School District One recently brought families, students, and community partners together for a memorable evening of reading and connection during its inaugural YSD1 Family Literacy Night: Under the Lights, held Thursday, April 23 at York Comprehensive High School Stadium.
The event transformed the stadium into a welcoming, literacy-focused space where families gathered picnic-style on the turf, enjoying books together under the lights. Students, staff, and community members embraced the opportunity to celebrate reading in a fun, engaging environment alongside student-athletes and district leaders.
“This event was about creating meaningful connections through literacy,” district officials shared. “It was incredible to see our families, students, and staff come together in such a positive and engaging way.”
Highlights from the evening included:
• Food trucks and concessions that added to the festive atmosphere
• Community organizations providing resources and support for families
• Interactive booths from each school and district department, each featuring a special book
• A spirited Reading Olympics competition of character inflatables that brought energy and excitement to the night

The event reinforced York School District One’s commitment to fostering a love of reading while strengthening school-community relationships.
Family Literacy Night also reflects the district’s mission of being Connected as ONE, ensuring every student feels seen, heard, and that they belong both in and out of the classroom.
