YORK, S.C. – A York County driver faces charges after allegedly attempting to navigate heavy snow while impaired on Saturday night.
The incident took place around 8:10 p.m. in the parking lot of the Harris Teeter on Celanese Road. According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed a vehicle moving erratically as road conditions deteriorated due to the winter storm. The driver subsequently drove onto a snow-covered island and became stuck.
Deputies approached the vehicle and took the driver into custody for driving under the influence (DUI).
Following the arrest, the Sheriff’s Office issued a statement highlighting the severe risks associated with impaired driving, particularly during hazardous weather events. Officials noted that while winter road conditions already present significant challenges for motorists and first responders, the decision to drive while impaired during a snowstorm creates an exceptionally dangerous situation.
Report from the Road: (8:10 p.m.) OK, folks, it’s one thing to be out on these roads when it’s as dangerous as it is, but to drink and drive in these conditions is next level.
