FORT MILL, S.C. — The Town of Fort Mill has hired Dr. Gordon Burnette III as its new Assistant Town Manager, with his first day in the role beginning April 4, 2025.
Dr. Burnette brings a background in public administration, communications, and education, having most recently served as Chief Communications Officer for both Brunswick County Schools and the Public Schools of Robeson County in North Carolina. His previous experience also includes work in higher education and local government, focusing on strategic communication and intergovernmental relations.
As Assistant Town Manager, Dr. Burnette will be responsible for overseeing several departments, including Parks & Recreation, Communications, Events, Municipal Court, and Information Technology. Town officials said his hiring is aimed at enhancing the town’s operational efficiency and community engagement.
Mayor Guynn Savage noted that Dr. Burnette’s qualifications align with the town’s priorities and expressed confidence in his ability to support Fort Mill’s growth and communication initiatives.
Dr. Burnette holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership from East Carolina University, a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from North Carolina State University.
Originally from Lumberton, North Carolina, Dr. Burnette now lives in the Fort Mill area with his wife and two daughters. He shared that he is excited to contribute to the town’s continued development and work alongside its leadership team.
The town welcomes Dr. Burnette as he begins his new role serving the Fort Mill community.
