York, SC – York School District One is pleased to announce several key administrative appointments for the 2025-26 school year. These leadership changes reflect the district’s commitment to fostering excellence in education and supporting student success. Effective July 1, 2025, Mrs. Jenna Howell-Markey will serve as Principal of York Comprehensive High School, Mrs. Marilyn Milton will take on the role of Principal at York Middle School, and Mrs. Jane Wallace will transition to Coordinator of Special Projects. Each of these accomplished educators brings extensive experience, leadership, and dedication to their new roles, ensuring continued growth and achievement for students across the district.
Jenna Howell-Markey Named Principal of York Comprehensive High School
Mrs. Jenna Howell-Markey will assume the role of Principal at York Comprehensive High School beginning July 1, 2025. A proud York Comprehensive High School graduate, Mrs. Howell-Markey brings a strong background in education and leadership to her new position.
She began her career in 2011 as a Psychology and Law Education teacher at Berkeley High School. Over the years, she has also taught Sociology, AP World History, and AP Psychology at River Bluff High School in Lexington School District One. Since 2019, she has served as an Assistant Principal at River Bluff High School, where she has been instrumental in supporting student success.
Mrs. Howell-Markey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Social Studies Education & Sociology from the College of Charleston (2011) and a Master of Education in School Administration from the University of South Carolina (2018).
Mrs. Milton Named Principal of York Middle School
Mrs. Marilyn Milton will take on the role of Principal at York Middle School, also effective July 1, 2025. With 21 years of experience as an educator and leader, she is well-prepared to lead the school community.
She began her career in 2004 as a seventh-grade Science teacher in Chester County School District. She later taught high school Biology in multiple school districts, including York Comprehensive High School, before transitioning into administration. In 2020, she became an Assistant Principal in Cherokee County School District and, since July 2023, has served as an Assistant Principal at York Comprehensive High School.
Mrs. Milton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Lander University (1997) and a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership from Gardner-Webb University (2019). A York resident, she looks forward to bringing her passion for education and leadership to York Middle School.
Mrs. Jane Wallace Appointed Coordinator of Special Projects
Mrs. Jane Wallace will transition into the role of Coordinator of Special Projects for the 2025-26 school year. She has served as the principal of Hunter Street Elementary since 2014 and previously led Jefferson Elementary School. Throughout her tenure in York School District One, she has held various roles, including teacher, computer specialist, and assistant principal, bringing over 35 years of experience in education.
Mrs. Wallace holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Winthrop University (1986) and a Master of Education in Elementary Administration and Supervision from Winthrop University (1992). A resident of Smyrna, she will officially assume her new position on July 1, 2025.
