Sydney Conrad, a longterm resident of Lake Wylie, SC, passed away on December 22 at the age of 84. She was born Sydnor Ann Guffey on May 22, 1941, in Bessemer City, NC, to parents Fred and Ethel Guffey.
She was a successful interior designer, antique dealer, and the owner of Antiques on Second in Gastonia. Sydney will be remembered for her devotion to family, her quick laugh, her keen eye for interior design, and her faith in God, which sustained her.
In addition to her parents, Sydney was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Lamar Whisnant, Sr.; her second husband, James Conrad; her sister, Carole May; and her brother, Reggie Guffey.
She is survived by James L. Whisnant Jr. (wife Pendle), her beloved grandsons, James Gray Whisnant of Los Angeles and John Reed Whisnant of Richmond, VA. Additionally, she is survived by four of her six siblings: Patricia Logan, Maudie Robinson (husband Bobby), Janet Sabucco, and Dayle Guffey (wife Charlene). She also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins whom she cherished.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 10, at Greene Funeral Home’s South Chapel location at 1502 South York Road in Gastonia. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM in the reception area prior to the service in the chapel.
