Humane Society of York County – Pets of the Week

The Humane Society of York County is showcasing two special animals this week—each hoping to find their forever home just in time for the holiday season. With hundreds of pets already placed this year, the rescue continues its mission to match loving families with deserving animals.

Cat of the Week: Stunner
This week’s featured feline is Stunner, a beautiful calico-tabby whose name fits her perfectly. Found as a stray, the 3.5-year-old sweetheart has been patiently waiting for her forever family. While kitten season often draws attention away from adult cats, Stunner offers something special—calm affection, beauty, and a true desire to bond with her person.

Stunner is spayed, vaccinated, tested, microchipped, and ready to settle into a warm lap of her own. The HSYC team describes her as loving, sweet, and overlooked for far too long. Anyone interested in meeting her can stop by the rescue or call 803-802-0902.

Dog of the Week: Wheelie
Wheelie, a charming “lowrider” pup with a long body and short legs, is this week’s featured dog. Rescued along with his brother Kickstand from Animal Control, Wheelie has quickly won hearts with his playful personality and eagerness to give kisses.

The small dog with a big spirit enjoys the company of other small pets and is described as silly, friendly, and full of character. Wheelie is neutered, vaccinated, tested, microchipped, and ready for adoption. To meet him, contact the HSYC to schedule an appointment.

Holiday Giving and Adoption Awareness
With Black Friday and Cyber Monday behind us, the Humane Society is encouraging the community to support the rescue on Giving Tuesday. Donations help provide food, medical care, shelter, and enrichment for the animals who call the rescue home.

The organization also reminds families to carefully consider the lifelong commitment of pet ownership. While the holidays may inspire the idea of adding a new companion, the HSYC stresses that pets should never be given as surprise gifts. Instead, they encourage family discussions to ensure a thoughtful, permanent decision.

How the Community Can Help
The Humane Society of York County relies heavily on community support. Residents can help by:

  • Donating needed items or financial contributions

  • Shopping at the HSYC Christmas Store or PAWSibilities Thrift Shop

  • Visiting the HSYC eBay store

  • Becoming a monthly financial supporter

  • Donating gently used items

  • Volunteering skills and time

  • Sponsoring the HSYC’s mission as a local business

Details about their holiday “Deck the Halls” fundraising and fencing initiative can be found at humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org.

Success Stories
As of 2025, the HSYC has already placed 724 pets—156 dogs and 568 cats—into loving homes. These successes highlight the continued need for adoption, donations, and volunteer involvement.
