Mattie Hughes Named Human Resources Coordinator
Mrs. Mattie Hughes will assume the role of Human Resources Coordinator beginning Spring Semester 2026. Mrs. Hughes brings nearly 30 years of education and leadership experience to her new position. Since 2014, Mrs. Hughes has served as Principal at Jefferson Elementary School, where she has been instrumental in leading significant academic achievement growth and supporting overall student success.
She began her career in 1996 as a Physical Science and Biology teacher at Bishopville High School. Over the course of her career, she has also taught Eighth Grade Science and Special Education and served as Assistant Principal at Cotton Belt Elementary School, Assistant Principal at Chester Park School of Inquiry, and Instructional Specialist ELS/SS for Chester School District.
Mrs. Hughes holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of South Carolina (1995) and a Master of Education in Education Leadership from Winthrop University (2006). She is also licensed in Supervision and Administration, K-12, Special Education (Learning Disabilities), K-12, and Biology and General Science.

Thomas Hyslip lives in Tega Cay with his wife and daughter. After 27 years in the U.S. Army and Federal Law Enforcement, he retired to pursue his passion for teaching. Tom is now an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of South Florida. In 2 short years he has won 10 awards from the South Carolina Press Association, including first place in column writing, education beat reporting and best podcast.
