YORK COUNTY, SC: York County is excited to announce the hiring of Matt Davis as Fire Services Director. Davis has served for the past 22 years as Deputy Fire Chief for New Hanover County Fire & Rescue in North Carolina. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to York County, and will provide excellent leadership and professional management in his new role.
Davis has more than 35 years of experience in fire services. For Davis it runs in the family, as his father started a volunteer fire department in a rural community when he was a child. Davis said it was God’s calling for him to serve his community in this field:
“I am honored by the opportunity to serve as the York County Fire Services Director. I look forward to collaborating with the county’s emergency responders and professional staff to ensure the continued delivery of exceptional fire protection and emergency services to the residents and visitors of York County.”
In New Hanover County Davis supervises 135 fire personnel. He has directed emergency operations, managed major fire and rescue scenes, and developed plans and policies for staff. He is skilled in personnel management, fire education, and disaster response planning. He holds more than a dozen certifications, and has a lengthy record of training.
Assistant York County Manager David Garner oversees Fire Services, Emergency Management, Public Safety Communication, and IT. He expressed his enthusiasm for Davis:
“As York County continues to grow and enhance the delivery of first-rate public services, we are excited to welcome Matt as the new leader of our Fire Services Department. Our goal is not only to modernize the department but also to position York County as a regional leader in all aspects of public safety. Matt’s experience and professionalism will be a tremendous asset as we move forward in executing our vision for Fire Services across the county.”
In York County, Davis will work with 16 volunteer and paid fire departments and the County Fire staff, which includes investigations, equipment, training, public education and prevention efforts.
Davis is married and has two daughters. He looks forward to relocating to York County, and will assume the role of Fire Services Director in July. We enthusiastically welcome Matt and his family to our team!
