The 2025 South Carolina Boys Individual Wrestling Championships, held on February 21-22, showcased some of the state’s best wrestlers. Athletes from Fort Mill, Nation Ford, Catawba Ridge, Rock Hill, and other local high schools put forth strong performances, with several wrestlers placing in the top four in their respective weight classes.
State Champions and Top Finishers
Indian Land led the way among local schools, winning the overall 5A team title with 99.5 points and producing two individual champions:
- Samuil Sobko (144 lbs)
- Jaelen Culp (165 lbs)
Rock Hill’s Trey Robinson (190 lbs) also captured a 5A state title, defeating Nation Ford’s Derek Bylone Van Sandwyk in the championship match.

In the 4A State Tournament, South Pointe High School had a dominant showing, tying for first place in the overall team standings with May River, each scoring 130.5 points. The Stallions crowned three individual state champions, showcasing their depth and strength on the mat. Alex Mestas (120 lbs) secured his title with a hard-fought 4-1 victory decision over AC Flora’s Brenden Brazier. Canon Long (144 lbs) displayed his dominance with a first-period pin over Laurens’ Micheal Aiken in just 1:59. These outstanding performances helped propel South Pointe to the top of the leaderboard, further solidifying their reputation as a wrestling powerhouse in South Carolina’s 4A division.

Building a Legacy
With Indian Land securing the 5A team title, South Pointe tying for 1st in the 4A team rankings, and several local wrestlers standing on the podium, the York and Lancaster Counties continue to be a powerhouse in high school wrestling.
