Winthrop University’s women’s golf team returns to competition Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19-20, at the UNCG Collegiate in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The 54-hole tournament will be held at Forest Oaks Country Club, a par-72, 6,037-yard course. The field includes Augusta, Campbell, Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne, Marshall, Queens and host UNC Greensboro, along with individual competitors from High Point and Wake Forest.
Monday’s opening day features 36 holes with a shotgun start, followed by the final 18 holes Tuesday. Winthrop will be paired with Marshall and Catawba for the first two rounds.
The Eagles enter the tournament following an 11th-place finish at the Terrier Intercollegiate. Senior Constanca Mendonca led Winthrop at that event, tying for 16th place. She also leads the team with a 74.29 stroke average this season.
Freshman Avery Suter ranks second on the team with a 76.71 stroke average.
Winthrop will look to improve on its performance at last year’s UNCG Collegiate, where the Eagles tied for seventh place. Mendonca led the team with a tie for 21st, while Friedt finished tied for 29th.
The Eagles’ lineup features Mendonca, Suter, Caroline Childers, Emily Young and Eileen Zeoli.
