Winthrop Men’s Golf Heads to Furman Intercollegiate

Winthrop University’s men’s golf team returns to fall competition Sunday and Monday, Oct. 18-19, at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville.

The 54-hole tournament will be played at Furman University Golf Club, a par-71, 7,131-yard course. The Eagles will compete against 14 other programs, including Furman, Presbyterian College, Wofford and USC Aiken. Sunday’s opening round features a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., with the final 18 holes scheduled for Monday beginning at 8:20 a.m. off the first and 10th tees.

Winthrop last competed at the Bryan Bros Collegiate in late September, finishing 16th.

Senior Andrew Gregory leads the Eagles with a 71.11 stroke average through three events. Junior Thomas Lamar ranks second at 72.67 after competing in two tournaments, while sophomore Mason Kucia and junior Cole Rouse each hold a 74.67 average. Kucia and Rouse have played in all three events this fall.

Kucia will look to build on his strong performance at last year’s Furman Intercollegiate, where he tied for ninth. He recorded a collegiate-best 54-hole score of 214, finishing one over par, and carded a career-low round of 67, four under par.

Winthrop’s lineup includes Gregory, Lamar, Rouse, Logan Lutz and Kucia, with Bowen Kicklighter competing individually.
