York School District One To Destroy Old Special Education Records

The district says records for students born before 2005 will be destroyed July 23, 2026, unless individuals claim them first.

Based on a release from York School District One.

York School District One has scheduled the destruction of special education records for students born prior to 2005, according to the district. The records are set to be destroyed on July 23, 2026.

The district said the disposal is a routine procedure that complies with state and federal regulations governing the retention and secure destruction of special education documentation after a student has aged out of or exited the program.

The process applies only to special education records and does not affect permanent general school records, according to the district.

Individuals have the right to request and claim their own records before the files are destroyed. Those seeking their records can contact the YSD1 Education Service Center at 803-684-1905.
