Winthrop Eagles Set to Open Men’s Basketball Season Against Piedmont University

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Winthrop Eagles will tip off their men’s basketball season tonight at home, taking on Piedmont University, a Division III team from Demorest, Georgia. The Eagles are entering the season with high expectations, having been selected to finish second in the Big South Conference preseason poll, trailing only High Point and ahead of Longwood and UNC Asheville.

This season marks Head Coach Mark Prosser’s fourth year at the helm. Prosser aims to improve on last year’s 4th-place finish, which saw the Eagles exit in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament against Longwood.

The Eagles have a challenging schedule ahead, featuring early matchups with Power 4 teams like Virginia Tech, Florida State, Indiana, and a game against former coach Pat Kelsey’s Louisville team. Winthrop will also host home games against William & Mary, Mercer, and traditional rival Coastal Carolina prior to starting conference play.

Tip-off tonight is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Winthrop Coliseum.
